Waterhole Rituals question

When training a horse, there is always a gap between the theoretical and the practical and this can be very frustraing . My advice for this is pretty much always that more time is needed. I can’t overstate the beautiful simplicity of the first Ritual as a preparation for the rest.

So, today’s blog post features a question by one of my loyal readers Norman, who writes:

I have been having trouble with the Rituals. My horses just aren’t reacting as I expected. During the first Ritual, my pony won’t come up to me again after I move the chair away. I can’t sneak up on any of them for the third Ritual. They always seem to be aware of everything around them. Should I chase them anyway? They never stop when I stop during the fourth Ritual. I don’t know how long I should keep walking after them. I don’t want them to resent me because I’m doing it wrong. Your Method is exactly what we need, it’s just frustrating that I can’t do it right.

Virginia’s story

Hi again. As you may remember, a couple of weeks ago I was telling you about some of the goings-on at my Fall & Winter Program. I mentioned a lady by the name of Virginia, whose beloved horse had just passed away recently. The story she told us touched me beyond words and I’d like to reproduce it for you here today.

Till Thursday, best wishes

Carolyn

I awoke early this morning to read a small saying on the calendar, “We are shaped by what we love”.

Dancing leadership

I am not against formulas and lessons in the training of horses and people. I am only against them when they are the only way you go about communicating and the training of horses.

Following formulas blindly, without question and without adjustment, can cause a person to lose their natural leadership ability, which then causes the horse to focus on having to pay attention to the rules rather than focusing on the connection.

I think that it is best for a person to hang around horses and horse trainers to develop a rhythm and a way of being around horses when things are right. I have watched horses being trained by other people for years as one of the many ways I gained my knowledge of horse training. It’s a lot of fun and I can’t think of a faster way to learn how to train a horse than by watching horses in nature and trainers that horses like as a way to develop your skill in the training of horses.

I’ve often been asked whether wild and domestic horses are the same or different from one another. Here’s my take on it

Gifted animal communicators who work with wild animals are focused on making the same connection and follow the same rules of communication that my Waterhole Rituals are focused on. Your connection and leadership with the Waterhole Rituals are on the animals’ terms and not on your own because of the mood and the ability to control the relationship. One minute you can have a connection and the next you do not. In fact it is easier to read a wild animals shift in attitude than with a domestic horse.

The Fall and Winter Program

Hi. Today I like to tell you some more about the amazing journey we have been travelling in my Fall and Winter Program.

The curriculum is designed to prepare the mind to step aside and let go of the need to make sense of anything and to return to the child mind and become truly present.

In general, humans have lost their ability to be present in the moment whereas horses are naturally present and because of this gap, a working bond cannot spring forth. By taking the time to become truly present to the moment is one of the many ways horses can elevate the human spirit. Once this present-ness is obtained, natural skills of connection with horses spring forth and the Rituals seem natural and easily understood. When this happens I then provide the class with all the Rituals and how to use them to develop a working bond.

Using the ‘Way of the Horse’

Hello everybody. Well, our Fall and Winter curriculum on Self-realization and Spiritual evolution through the Waterhole Rituals has gotten off to a great start. We were a group of eight including my mother and myself. We have finished with our first 8 weeks. If anyone out their would enjoy joining the program through the blog, we in the class will respond to anything you would like to share with us by writing in the comments section on the latest entry for the blog.

You can join us by sitting with your horse in daily mediation and reading Linda Kohanov’s book `Way of the Horse’. This is how we begin each class. You then, can write your personal aha moments with your horse and Linda’s book for the blog. I would like that this Fall and Winter be a time we can share with one another our personal journeys to deepen the connection we share with horses

I am using Linda’s book because of the brilliant information it provides to people in search of self-realization through the heart connection we share with horses. Thank you Linda for your clarity and writing a book that is truly brilliantly written and what I … Read more

Autumn – the grumpy horse !

Hi. Today I would like to share with you an email I received from our regular contributor Margaret, who has been having some telephone coaching with me. Her horse Autumn had been causing her a few problems by demanding treats in a somewhat grumpy fashion.

Now as you read Margaret’s story, think about how you can take the advice I gave to Margaret, adapt it and use it with your horse if he is presenting you with problems. A lot of horse training is about using your imagination and coming up with solutions that are fun for both of you.
