Hi. As you might have guessed, I’m a very practical person, I learn by doing. Utlimately though, we all must learn by doing as there is no alternative and this is especially true with horses. I do hope that you enjoy watching my DVDs and reading my book but I have to tell you that unless you get out there and put them into practise, you will never know what sort of results you might get.
I recently had a lovely email from a lady called Madelaine. Here’s what she had to say:
Hi Carolyn,
Something extraordinary happened today that I need to share with you.
I just received your DVD and your book this Tuesday. I looked at the DVD and started to read the book at home and while sharing spaces. (What an exciting life you have with horses).

My family instilled in me that dogs learn fast, horses can too, and most animals seem to learn faster than humans. It was this idea that caused me when I was a child to understand that I needed to develop my ability to learn from the horse so I could be on par with them.
Both sides of my family were horse lovers. The big joke in my family is that they were bound and determined to raise me to have an interest in horses, as if they could have stopped me. It is hard to say if my parents’ intentions were to support my interest or that they purposely shaped me to love them as I do today.

I have never spent much time bomb proofing horses because with the Waterhole Rituals I provide a horse a feeling of safety in my charge and to follow my lead without question from the relationship I can establish with them. Before you consider bomb proofing a horse I would advise that you to get the go and stop buttons on your horse first at liberty, as well as teaching a horse to be polite, respectful and willing to work with you creatively in any given moment. What your horse is lacking is an understanding in how to respond creatively and with interest.
It is a good idea while bomb proofing your horse to ask your horse to leave the area at a quick trot as well as to stand still, working between these two requests. Horses are capable of giving many different responses to the same thing if you train them through a combination of routines and creative spontaneous interactions.

Hello. Before I get on to today’s post, I am delighted to announce that my book Naked Liberty is now available on CD. For those of you who are technically challenged, like me, this will probably come as a great relief! The book is read by my good friend, Liz Mitten Ryan, and she has done a wonderful job of bringing my childhood experiences to life. You can get it by clicking here, Naked Liberty on CD. I hope you enjoy it.
Today, I want to address a problem that people are having sending a horse away from them at liberty. Many people have expressed concern that driving a horse away from them will hurt the trust and bond. I can understand this point of view because of the struggle it might take in their mind to teach a horse to leave you when he does not want to go.

Hello. Thank you all for your wonderful comments and kind words recently. It seemed you enjoyed the HorseConscious call on Tuesday as much as I did!
Today, I’d like to talk to you about the rules that horses have with each other. This is extremely important to grasp not just because for me, it is the foundation of what I do but because it is the foundation for all horse interactions.

I find that a very important connection I have with horses comes from the subtleties and energy that we share back and fourth. For example, how I choose to connect each time I have been away from my horse. I might choose to be focused on him and greet him with my full attention because that is how he chooses to great me that day. Or maybe I meet him with my focus on the world around us rather than on him to display that I have my finger on the pulse of life. This way I can win his trust in the moment and enforce my important position as a valuable friend and leader. I consider all these things when I reconnect with my horse.
I make these decisions by how I feel, how my horse feels at the time and where his focus is. If my horse’s focus is on eating and he does not acknowledge me, I will sit down and wait for him to come to me.

Hello again. Readers and visitors to my blog often send me lovely emails and stories, which I like to share with you. Some are about successes people have had with my Method and others are just heart-warming and touching. Today’s post is one of the latter. It comes from a lady called Dannielle in Ontario, Canada who wrote to me about the a rescue horse she took in called Rowan.
The story is quite a long one, so we have put it in pdf format for you to view it separately or download and print it. Here though are some photo’s of Rowan (taken by daughter Elise Chehowski) and Dannielle’s email, hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
