Second Annual Free Course, Winter 2011
Welcome to week 7!
Here is the fourth Uberstreichen Exercise for you all to try.
Welcome!
If you are new to my blog, welcome! The blog is a classroom of my Method of preparing a horse for any and all equestrian pursuits. It will create a dependable well-adjusted horse for anything you are planning on doing that is natural to the individual horse. The Method allows the horse to train you in your leadership approach of him at liberty, from the ground, before you use tack, and develops your horsemanship skills in a fun way.
The blog is a support system for you that accompanies my online classroom, coaching clinics, books, and DVDs. Whatever the topic on the blog, feel free to ask for my guidance on any subject. I may choose your question to answer.
My Method helps a horse to learn more rapidly with an enthusiastic attitude. The Waterhole Rituals™ prepare a horse for daily training, riding for pleasure work, or performance, and causes an extreme connection with its handler. The Method develops a cross-species bond, and a willing, well-adjusted horse. I have chosen specific Rituals that horses use in a natural … Read more

Announcement: Please check back to Tuesday’s blog on the Uberstreichen Class, we have new videos posted.
The conference call was wonderful because of our group and the interesting questions asked. It is so uplifting to be heard and appreciated! Thank you all for your contributions to the call! I am more and more aware that I am making a difference for the horse getting a better deal, and helping the cause of finding other uses of horses from the connection we share with them. They have so much to offer mankind in our evolution, well-being, and life enrichment that they bring to us. We need to take care of the horses we have produced- it is our moral responsibility, and it is important to man’s own salvation. The mind set that would take care of a horse after its practical need for labor and transportation and entertainment is a mind that will help to form peace on the planet.
The Question
Someone on the call asked a question about her trainer who felt that her riding was setting her horse’s training back, and she wanted to know if this is possible. I want to add more to my answer to … Read more

Welcome to week 6!
A Valentines Day Card!
Before we get started with the Third Uberstreichen Exercise, I want to share with you all a special Valentine’s Day Card from Stina Herberg in the Caribbean. I’m sorry it is late, but I am sure you will all really enjoy it as I did! Thank You Stina!
A Little Background First
The purpose of the third Uberstreichen Exercise is to teach your horse to lower his head while he is moving forward. The third exercise is done in the same manner as the second exercise. You will start each day with the first exercise, and then when it feels good, you move on to the second exercise. When you feel the horse is really connected and listening to you, then move to the third Uberstreichen Exercise.
Let’s Begin
Start yourself and your horse in Companion Walking™ on a non-influencing loose line on a 20-meter circle. Do some walk-halt requests, and practice walking on the circle until the horse is comfortable with the pattern. Halt about every 10 feet. When your horse will automatically slow down and speed up with you in Companion Walking without the … Read more

Cavalia Show Highlights
Cavalia is back again in Southern California, this time in Burbank. Normand Latourelle, one of the founders of Canada’s famed Cirque du Soleil, created the grand spectacular between horses and humans we know as “Cavalia.” The first year Cavalia came to California was in 2004. One of the most amazing things about the production is the sheer size and scale of it! Cavalia is held under the largest touring big top in North America reaching a height of 100 feet with a stage that is 160 feet wide! This allows the horses enough space to gallop and play with the artists at times free, unfettered by bridles or halters, my kind of show!
The first time Cavalia came to Southern California, I went only once, because that is the way people usually do it, just attending one performance once a season. The next time I couldn’t help attending the show three times- especially because Cavalia doesn’t come ever year, and there is no guarantee that they will return. I thought I was probably in the minority going back to see three shows in the same season. Few people are as horse crazy as I am! Then I … Read more

Welcome to week 5!
What we have accomplished up to this point is that your horse can stand on a dropped line or without a line, and will stay in place while you walk around him to the right. (This is the beginning of you horse learning to stay in tune with you without governing his performance. You are creating a horse to be more responsible and in self control. For a horse to do well in self-carriage, your horse will need the desire to follow your request, and then carry out what you ask of him without your constant direction.)
What we have also accomplished now is that your horse will allow you to take a floating hold, and that your horse will drop his head down at any lower level you ask for. (It is important that your horse is willing to put his head in a lower frame anywhere you request it to go, and hold it there in a natural way.)
So far in this exercise you are getting the horse to unlock the base of the neck where the neck ties into the shoulders. You are not yet asking … Read more
