Closing Thoughts of Gratitude

Closing Thoughts of Gratitude

Horses and humans had a good time together in our co-creative process through the online courses that just took place. Thank you for the flowers, gifts, and cards you have sent me in appreciation of my course. Most all of you in the class spoke of your gratefulness for the experience and what you got out of the course. It let me know that the school is something that is wanted and needed in the equine world.

It was a thrill to watch all of your creative approaches with my method. I enjoyed designing a customized program to suit you and your horse with the Insider Circle students every two weeks. I was amazed in how the Extended Circle students were able to guide their own programs. I watched both classes thriving on the program we shared together. In these courses, you learned how to train your horse at liberty in a free open environment with the Waterhole Rituals.

What I love about the Waterhole Rituals is that you get to approach your horse with the Rituals from a co-creative process that feels right to both you and your horse.  I also want to thank my class … Read more

A few benefits you will gain from practicing this lesson is how to communicate with your body language, how to get your horse to wait, your horse learns to come when called, and that your horse can move away when you ask him to. Sounds Good! If you have any questions please post them.

Today we have a video demonstration of the Waiting Game Liberty Lesson featuring Alessandra Deerinck and Rosalie. Thank you Alessandra and Rosalie for getting up early this morning to demonstrate this new lesson! Please click on the link below to see the video.

The Waiting Game:

The First Secret for this lesson…
..It helps to work with your horse when he feels relaxed and does not want to go anywhere. A nice hot day can help you with this part especially at the time he usually takes a nap. I suggest that people use the conditions around them to support the training of their horses.

Caution Zone… You should never try to train your horse to tie by tying. First, train your horse to stand quietly on one spot before you would try tying him. You want your horse to understand that he needs to … Read more

Here it is what I promised you, a REAL lesson at Liberty. The “how to” portion of the lesson will be in Thursday’s blog. I am taking Tuesday’s blog to explain some points to get you started.

Isn’t it a crazy idea to think of training your horse at liberty before you train him with tack? Not really- because it is much more natural to begin training a horse at liberty. It is certainly easier on the horse. If you start with tack first, a horse must give up his independence. It causes him to feel compromised. I am wanting to develop a committed partnership with a horse. Tack in the horse’s mind is restrictive, and the horse does not see that the partnership is consenting, or that it is his idea. When a horse is trained at liberty, tack is only a supportive element for communication.

Character Development
I also want to allow the horse’s character to mature from the relationship I develop with him in a free environment. By developing a relationship with the horse first, I can take the time needed to develop a deep committed partnership with him, like I created with Panadero. Panadero is the … Read more

The Four Secrets

When I was growing up in the desert, my Dad and I developed a training business for me. Four things I taught my horses helped me develop the kind of connection that my clients wanted their horses to have. I created a horse that was better than what other adult training business’s were able to give back to their clients. What I was able to return to a client was a settled horse that enjoyed human interactions so much that when he got back to his owner, the horse was willing to perform and stay well trained for them as well.

The reason for this is that the horse was no longer on guard and enjoyed working for humans. I had made pets out of them that were very well trained without needing to be policed to keep the training in them. They did not need the direction of a true horseman to keep the training they had been given. It is a big problem when sending a horse into professional training. The owners think that they can send a horse off to training and get back a horse that will stay trained and the only way that is going … Read more

I just received a video from Lila Harding that she thought I would enjoy. Lila is one of my suggested instructors on my method as well as a working student. She wrote in her email that it was a video of the Waterhole Rituals™ being done with people rather than horses. I know you will all enjoy it. I wish it was longer, it is about 14 minutes long- but I could have watched for an hour or two more. Seldom are we able to witness such moments of adventure and acts of sharing.

You will see the Hello Ritual™ in its fullest power, and get a deeper meaning to what this Ritual provides to the understanding and bond that it brings to the relationships that we form.

Tribe Meets White Man for the First Time

Relationships are gentle things that need a lot of attention.

Stepping back for a moment to think about what a horse is feeling allows the connection to form between you and your horse when you go to him and need him to provide a service for you. It is hard to understand that for … Read more

Learn how to shape the energy of the horse to be appropriate in the moment in the interactions you share.

People are talking about Robin Gates and her amazing dancing horses and her amazing clinics. I want to announce that Robin is getting ready for another clinic on September 3rd and 4th 2011 in Sebastopol, California.

Attending Robin’s clinic you will get the opportunity to experience breathtaking interactions with horses at liberty. You will learn how horses in nature develop their bonds and ability to flow together in a dance of unity and harmony right in front of your eyes by watching Robin working at liberty. Robin will explain in detail what is occurring in the horse’s mind so that you may approach your horse in a way that will bring out willingness, cooperation, and trust. The dynamics are the most important part in how to build a working partnership with a horse at liberty and this is what she will be sharing with you.

Robin leaves nothing out, and offers plenty of action. She does this in a humorous and entertaining way that makes complete sense. If you do not have horse experience, after this … Read more
