Hi again. Yes, I’m very excited and I have to admit also very flattered that we now have a full class for the new Insider Circle Program, thank you for your trust in me and my Method. I know you are really going to have a great time and learn so much.

The same goes for the large number of you who have joined the ‘In a Box’ Program too and I’m going to make sure I support you just as much as I can.

Now, we have had a number of questions from those wishing still to join and some from those who already have, so I thought it would be worth just covering those today for everyone’s benefit.

“Now that the Insider Circle is full, what’s the difference between that and the ‘In a Box’ Program?”

Good question and everything’s exactly the same except for 2 items:
- Only the Insider Circle participants get to participate live on the calls
- I will only be doing video reviews for the Insider Circle folks
Other than that, you get all the videos and CDs, all the same call recordings and most importantly you get to ask me your questions in the special Insider Circle Classroom on the site. As I mentioned on our call on Sunday, there is almost as much benefit in hearing about everyone else’s experiences, struggles and triumphs as we all pretty much going through the same learning curve and come up against the same roadblocks.

You also get the benefit of the the special Insider Circle Club site, where you can mix and get to know all the other students from this year and last. Plus you can upload your photos and videos and chat and even blog about your experiences, it’s a great place to hang out:

“Will you be running the Insider Circle and ‘In a Box’ Programs again this year?”

No. I definitely won’t be running the Insider Circle and if we run the Box Program, it will be in a different format as it won’t have my direct involvement.

“When are the calls going to take place?”

We’re going to aim for Sundays at 10am Pacific and Mondays at 6pm Pacific starting 18th April and running 2-weekly after that.

“Will the calls be recorded?”

Yes, all calls will be recorded and available for online listening or download shortly afterwards

“I’m concerned about the cost of calling the US, what can you suggest?”

Mark has said that most countries have low-cost access numbers or calling cards. He also said you can even use Skype or Truphone if you have an iPod Touch, iPhone or similar device.

OK, that about wraps it up for today and I’ll be back again on Thursday with a pre-class lesson for you. In the meantime, there is still time to sign up to the Box Program, just follow the link at the top of the page there.

Oh yes, nearly forgot. We had a great call on the Uberstreichen Exercises last Sunday and if you didn’t manage to catch it, you can hear the replay here Uberstreichen Call.

And finally, we have received another lovely podcast reading, this time from Lori Keehr. Thank you Lori and please send us a little about yourself like Beth did on the Podcast Page and the same please to everyone else so we get to know each other better.

Thanks so much for all the help Carolyn. I keep learning so much more each time I read the blog and the others posts. I keep practicing the first WHRs up to Leading from Behnind. I am going to the Waterhole Rituals in a Box so I will be able to follow what you do with the Insider Circle Class. Snowy and I were not at a point where we could have taken the class yet, but I really look forward to hearing what the Insider Circle Class does so that I can learn to understand Snowy even more.

    Hi Mark,
I think the Flip may have improved since you bought it. Some specifications of the Flip Ultra HD:
    * I can get stills from my Flip, not with the Flip itself, but with the Flip program on my PC I can make stills of any shot in my videos (which can be selected frame by frame).
    * My Flip can zoom while videoing, no problem.
    * Don’t think it has an external microphone though.
    * The Flip Ultra HD has a recording time of 2 hours and storage room of 8 GB; I don’t think I’ll ever wish for more capacity than that ;-) . But you’re right, SD cards are a very nice feature of the Kodak!
It’s good to know there are more of these simple type video cameras.

Thanks for your kind comments, everyone.

I see that Marja bought the Flip, they’re good, I have one but the Kodak version offers a little more flexibility:
    * It takes stills as well as video
    * You can zoom whilst videoing (which didn’t used to be possible with the Flip)
    * External microphone socket – very useful for recording quality audio especially in an interview situation (not so vital of course with shots of horses in arenas)
    * Removable and expandable memory storage via the SD cards – an excellent feature which means you can just have a stash of them to hand and never worry about running out of recording time. Plus they can easily be posted and many PCs and laptops have slots for these cards, which means you don’t need to have the camera with you to download the recordings.

I can also see some of you asking questions on the WRIC Club site and we’ll get round to compiling an FAQ on these and there’ll be more info due out next week….

Till then, have a lovely Easter, y’all!

me too so excited! I thought I’d already posted here, maybe I just dreamed it, since I think of little else these days! I so want my horse to be better and off box rest so’s we can get on with all this. One thing that saddens me is that I don’t have the chance to integrate him into a herd, and/or to give him a big place to run and play and all that, but I guess many others have the same regret. Anyway I’m convinced that what I’ll learn together with everyone else on this course is how to make him the happiest I can, in our circumstances, which is what makes ME the happiest I can be!
thanks, and looking forward to our collective adventure (also shaking in my muddy boots re the technological side of things, praying not to mess up there….)
    best to all,
    susan

Hi Leanna, I bought myself a Flip Ultra HD video camera. Very tiny and very simple, a child can handle it :-) . One big red button is all you have to press to make a HD video. I’m very happy with it!

Oh, how great that the Uberstreichen call was recorded and can be replayed, because….. I completely forgot to listen in…..
    Thanks :-) !

    Dear Mark and Carolyn,

Thank you for the information on the video camera. I also very much enjoyed the UE phone conference call. I am very excited to be part of this!

Joanna, what is the IC Web Space you joined?

    Mark,

Thank you for your reply on the video camera info. Much appreciated. When we started the IC program we didn’t even have an ipod and it was not the best use of our opportunities. You and Tessa have really been a great help to us on so many levels and really fast to respond to any issues as well. I commend you both on your efforts and dedication to not only all of us but to the horses as well.

Just checking in. Yowahtee and I are also VERY excited to be in this program! And a little nervous too:). Some of the technology is new to me but I am excited about learning it all. I love to learn!

Thanks to all of you for teaching, sharing and being in a place where I could find you online. I often get so immersed in the learning here, I lose track of time!

    Hi Folks!

Let me answer some of your questions here but for those already signed up for the Insider Circle or the ‘In a Box’ Program, you will get full help and support on the site both before and during the classes.

Kate – I have resent you an invite. Email me or Tessa at info@carolynresnick.com if you have any more issues.

Leanna – If you want a handy, carry everywhere video camera as opposed to a full home-movie camera, then the best one by far is this one:

It’s priced about $180 and is worth every cent. It’s a snap to use and plugs straight into your computer to transfer the ‘footage’. You will also need an SD card, min 4GB but go for as big as possible if you can.

If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch, you can use those too and email the files directly to the Insider Circle Club site.

As I said, I will be providing support and videos as we go along, so if you have a question for me, please ask it on the Club site.

Beth – thank you for kind comments :)

    Hi Carolyn
I want to congratulate you for your UE call. For me, it was the point on the i. Thank you very much!
Will the old timer students be able to read your comments that you write to the new students? Or do you work again with a code?
    Thanks for your reply.

    Leanna Kielian says:

    Carolyn,

Thank you again so much for the discussion on how to proceed with True. I am really looking forward the program. I actually spent a good deal of the last in the box time working with getting her to move off with my reed. I only wish I had videos of it now. It would have at least made people laugh(really hard, I was so ignored.) We did succeed over time, following your instructions in the recorded calls, blog and videos. I did have to use really good treats to give her somewhere wonderful to go for a while. Between the following from behind and her pasture companion Raisin teaching her the same with much more skill than I, she is really getting soft and moving happily away now and no resentment either. Treats and praise for responding also helped. She especially seemed to enjoy the send away between two people and picked up on it really really fast. What I really like about your method is that we learn to work with the individual nature of the horse to get responses in a positive way. Today I was able to back her up a few steps, lower and raise her head and pick up both her rear feet with the turnout gate wide open in front of us, no halter or restraint. This is so wonderful. Scratches were her reward. The other day I was having her touch a ball for treats during which she then showed me where she would like scratches and kept touching the ball when asked or I stopped scratching. I have never had a horse change the reward form during interaction before. The same day I asked her go to touch the ball to go out to the field just once and the following day she went and touched the ball on her own right after I opened the gate. We still kept the routeen of ears forward and not crowding my space and are working on the stand and stay. She is really quick to learn or incorporate. I can see from the UE call how as you had mentioned the UE’s should be really helpful for her. We are just to the stay part and next is to walk around her vs across the paddock or barn with her not moving. She is now listening, but this one was one she really tested me on for a while.

***For anyone thinking about the in the box program you will love it!

Just be sure to keep up with the lessons unless your horse is telling you to slow down, then follow your horse’s needs. But since you will have this material later you can proceed with the rituals as you and your horse(s) are ready. I totally recommend the program, it is fun, can be done in small bits and the horses like it, what is better than that? I cannot explain how valuable it is and if you follow Carolyn’s lessons you will learn to watch you horse’s responses very closely to monitor how you are doing. My other recommendation is to watch multiple horse interactions to see how Carolyn’s lessons relate to what the horses are actually doing with each other. I have been trying to see the finer points in these interactions to better understand how they use them. One very important lesson I have seen from the horses here at our house is if you may not be safe leave the situation, get out, don’t try and fix it right then and come back later when you are in a safer location or slightly different moods/weather etc are present and then try to continue the ritual. Our horses don’t want to get hurt and if the situation looks to risky, for example a small confined area and exhubernt filly they get out and deal with her later on their terms, usually in an amazingly effective but nonviolent way. The long term result appears safe, effective and appears so slick as to possibly be preplanned by them in advance. I really swear that I once saw this happen to two of them in the field with her and they had a nose to nose serious conference over it because after the concerned looks and the “conference” they both deliberately moved her in different ways but were safe, and made her action seem ineffective (to her) it later just didn’t show up in her behaviour anymore, which made John and I really have a sigh of relief because we didn’t like what we saw her try either. To me they tried extinguish bad behavior by not give her any reason to show it worked. Like staying at her shoulder when she was turning her butt to them. Then later they would come out of the blue and run her off the location and deliberately walk away from the spot she had been removed from. Similiar to Carolyn’s lead horse surprizing the horse in question charging at the waterhole. Lesson observation number two they have shown that there is more than one way to be effective as leaders getting message across, even on the same subject, just different choice by different horses. We are seeing less of this now that she is becoming a young lady instead of a rude teenager without playmates her own age. A lot more quiet cooperation and playful romping with more restrained behavior on her part.

I have a question for Mark or anyone else who may be able to help. Video Cameras any suggestions? We unfortunately didn’t have one before and are now able to pick something out. Perhaps some suggestions for the class in price ranges? Or features? Stina if you read this do you have any suggestions?

    Hello to all:

Caroline, if you or anyone have ideas to share on how to work with Capricho’s play, I’d appreciate any feedback. He is in a grassy paddock of some 1/8-1/4 acre with enormous trees as well as small ones. He could constantly graze but spends a lot of time in play with branches, sticks, and boxes although not balls – I’m hiding carrots under them. He loves to chase a plastic bag tied to the end of the reed (all at liberty). I feel I’m looking at a key to his character and am meditating on how to share with him on this level. Any feedback welcome.

Checking in to tell you that also I’m very excited. I hope I will understand everything well on the phone. That’s my greatest concern in this moment! As well as the concern about the technology as Christine says! Is my English well enough?
The call on the UEs made things more clear to me and today for the first time I think I saw an arch and some lifting of the shoulder!! Clarence is still quite stiff in her back with her weight on her forelegs, but the liberty training and the practise of the UEs plus barefoot are bringing results – her neckline rounds and she has got more muscles. I’ll try to send fotos.
    Looking forward to April 18th!!

From all the positive feedback of happy people fairly shouting “I got in !!” I think it safe to say that we all are excited for this grand opportunity to learn to speak “horse’ with your wise and experienced counsel, Carolyn. Most, it seems, are quite familiar with your work and the glowing words of those who’ve participated in the Insider’s Circle dance before us only serves to add to the excitement.
And we did have a great call discussing the Uberstreichen Exercises, didn’t we; shows by another example what we’ve to look forward to :)
    Oh, yes – I’m excited, too !!

Lori, terrific reading, love the sound of your voice and your selection was a nice follow-up to the piece I read.

Mark and Tessa – you both are wonderful in your active support of Carolyn, her work, horses and this herd – thank you !!

I am very excited – and nervous, too. Will I get all the technology set up in time? The calls, videos, all that computer stuff…
How strange, that something as subtle and soulfilled as the WHR should be communicated through so much technology!
I am looking forward to you, Carolyn, looking at my lovely horse Shadow: so excited about sharing him with all of you – I am so proud of him!
He is so used to me spending time doing nothing with him, I wonder what’s going to happen? Will he say: oh, I know what that is,let’s just eat some grass… At least I can then tell him: hang on, I’ll ask Carlyn she knows what comes next.

Very excited here too! So is Capricho. The connection already seems to have improved – I’m getting those nickers again! We had a two hour ride last night that went so well, and I found out he has the best canter – like a gentle rocking chair.

Loved the link about zebras, I’m sorry I can’t recall who posted that, but thanks very much.
