Carolyn Resnick Horsemanship: Liberty Horse Training

Favorites

I have studied horses and horsemanship all my life and continue to do so. There are many people whose work I think is fabulous and so I wanted to bring together some of their material along with a whole collection of my own favorite contributions. I’ll be adding to them as time goes by and I hope you like them.

Talley and Blaise – Falling in Love

This is Stina’s video called “The Unbridled Spirit”, it is just as beautiful to watch.

The video illustrates the feeling you will gain by connecting with a horse at liberty using Body Talk with intent and focus. It will cause your heart and mind to dance together creating harmony and unity and also cause the dance between you and your horse to become magical. It is a beautiful feeling to have your leadership dance lead by your horse’s responses to your Body Talk. It is primal, natural, up-lifting, magical and practical because you will find less training is required.

2 months ago i woke up one morning wanting desperately to go horseback riding. I had ridden quite frequently as a kid, and even worked with a trainer for a year, but hadn’t had the opportunity to be around horses over the last few years. I called all around local stables with no success until i found a horse rescue that offered lessons, trail rides, the option to lease a horse, and adopt a horse. I got ahold of the ranch owners and headed out there shortly after. When i arrived i told her that i was interested in leasing a horse. She asked what i was looking for in a horse and i explained to her that i was hoping to find one with a lot of spirit, personality, and attitude, even if the horse had issues that needed to be worked through. She brought me out to her pasture of geldings and the very first horse to greet us was a 13 year old saddlebred gelding named Diamond. At the end of my tour i knew i wanted to work with Diamond, i told her i was very interested in him and that i would be back the next day. Diamond and i have since been working together, we have started tiding with nothing but a lead rope, all i have to do to get him to offer his feet is ask and he will hand them to me and let me hold them or place them on a bucket in any position and hold them there until i ask him to release, i can sit under him and he will not move, i can ask him questions and he will answer yes or no by shaking or nodding his head (without any conditioning,) he protects me from other horses that try to get pushy with me by placing himself vetween the other horse and i, he has even protected me from one of his pasture mates who tried to charge me. We also frequently amuse everyone at the ranch because of the daily baths i get from him. We like to just sit around and spend time together and in those moments i become the “victim” of his tongue. Diamond is never more happy than when he is licking me from head to toe. People that haven’t seen us together can’t help but laugh when they see it. We are constantly told that we were meant to be together, and we are already well on our way to learning tricks such as bow, and lie down thanks to our incredible bond.

    Hi Carolyn!
I just noticed this new section! I love all of those videos and I look forward to seeing more of your favorites!

Here are a few of my favorite youtube videos besides the ones you posted:

I LOVE this one and have watched it so many times! I dream of having this kind of connection with my horse some day! — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6N1ZiA8SUyk&feature=PlayList&p=013D2D8BBE2FE63A&index=19

I like this one a lot too, this woman must have a very strong relationship with her horse for him to stay with her completely at liberty in the forest — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6N1ZiA8SUyk&feature=PlayList&p=013D2D8BBE2FE63A&index=19

Heres another of my favorites,–> playing at liberty and bridleless riding at the beach — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzUUqmiSckQ&feature=PlayList&p=013D2D8BBE2FE63A&index=13

Wow—is all I can say…Honza ia amazing…what unity and love between them.

Miracle and I may not be able to do all of those things Honza is doing—she’s an 1800 lbs Percheron–but who knows…at least we will enjoy the journey.

Thanks for posting this video—I hadn’t seen that one yet.

    MMMM..I look forward to more.

I am moved to tears for joy and beauty of what I have just witnessed thru your site. I am humbles at the connection this man has with his horse and deelpy moved and touched. You tube has created a whole new way for the world to share and get to know one another…it is a blessing that technology gives us. In retrospect I think to myself, how much TIME and effort is put into this kind of relationship and training? I think many people get caught up in the beauty and they want that, but for whatever reason they are unable to GIVE that kind of commitment…what can your average ‘weekend warrior’ or someone who is new to horses, and who love their horses, hope to achieve in the short term and the long term with their horse using your method?
