Hello again! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and holiday time. Thanks too for all the lovely pictures that were sent in.

As I may have mentioned before, I am currently in the process of writing my second book, which will be much more of a how to than Naked Liberty. Nearly everybody loves Naked Liberty but some found it difficult to translate the stories into everyday, workable practises they could use, so I decided I should put together a companion book to address this.

Anyway, this is a draft piece from the introduction, I hope you like it.

Till next year (Thursday!), may I wish you a very happy and healthy 2009.
Best wishes

Carolyn

    Dear Maria,
Being a leader requires that your horse leads the way. Horses want our leadership. Horses largest need is to find a leader they can trust. They want to shape us to be good leaders because they enjoy finding a leader they can trust. If a horse wants to lead and he is good at it he will follow my lead as well becauses because he is supportive. He is completly in charge on anyting I do. I am in charge of soical politness at all times.
Horses are partners like a marrage partner. we need suport from one another. I think you have missed the point. Is this true or did I not understand you? It is not eather or it is a love connection in harmony and unity where the horse’s life his enhanced along with mine in a magical connection. I think you thing leadership is firm and not flexable. Leaderhsip is loving a giving and a shared deal.

Dear Carolyn, I’m delighted to have your blog constantly inspiring me and confirming my own feelings. I wonder do you think there is ever a time for the horse to be our leaders? Was this the case for you when you were very young and were learning from the wild horses?
I think we would all benefit from a period like this where we accept that we need to learn from them first.

All the best with your new book :)

I feel your approach with horses will get more and more attention in the near future. People, horses and the ‘new age’ are simply ready for it! And one day I hope that even in our tiny Holland there will be a market for a Dutch translation of your books (which I would love to do the translating for :-) !)

    Dear Carolyn
As always a joy to read your blog.
Could you tell me when your new book will be ‘on the market’ ?
    Also can I pre-order ? :-) )
Your work, The Path of the Horse, the new teleseminar and horseconscious is absolutely the best thing that has happend in the horseworld in a long time.
I know that you have been ‘out-there’ for a while, but maybe horse-people are more ready now.
    Thank you so much..

I can’t wait for your new book. I just saw The Path of the Horse and was completely moved by it. The relationship that you have with your horses is so incredibly beautiful and inspiring. Thank you for sharing all you know.

    Dear Mariette,
Being in connection with horses is a feeling you both enjoy sharing with one another and the answer to your question is if your intent is to bond and your heart is in the right place and your horse is willing you are on the right path.

In the beginning bonds are subtle and from the relationship you share in these times they grow deeper and deeper until you can turn a horse loose anywhere in nature with horses he is bonded to and he would still prefer your company to theirs without offering a food reward. This doesn’t happen in the first, second or even third year one tries to develop a bond with their horse usually. It is a process.

Accept was the word I meant to use.

Thank you so much for those words of wisdom. I always get a lot from what you say. I just have few things I need cleared up. When you say the horse excepts us, did you mean accept, or am I missing what you are saying? Maybe he is pointing us out as different? That would be a good thing given how most people handle horses.
When you say extemporaneous do you mean impromptu or unrehearsed? If a horse leaves his food and herdmates to come to me when I whistle, is that extemporaneous or it is forced? When I wait a half hour for him to come to me and I hardly ever have to go to “get” him. Is that what you mean as ideal? Or should he be in a wild place and then come to me in order for me to have a real bond? I usually find my horse totally willing to do anything I ask as long as I am not boring for him. If I just hang around he will start to ask me for food and scratches etc., so then we just go and do something else interesting for him. When I turn him loose in his large paddock where he lives 24/7 with about a dozen herd mates, he hangs around the gate until I leave. I take this as a compliment and hope that it is!
