Liberty training… in Norway
Mar 3rd, 2009 by Carolyn Resnick Method
Hello again. The wonderful thing about the internet is that you can reach people all across the world and never have to leave home. If you have read my blog for a while, then you are probably familiar with my friend and student, Stina, who is Norwegian but lives on the island of St.Vincent in the Caribbean.
Stina got in touch with me towards the end of 2007 and started have coaching by phone and email. The results for her and her herd of wild horses have been astonishing, for which I must give Stina huge credit.
Stina was recently featured in Hesteliv, the main horse magazine in Norway. The magazine interviewed 4 Norwegian horse trainers including Stina and I thought it would be fun to show it to you and to read what Stina had to say.

Dear Tina,
In answere to your question. comapnion walking is at the side. You could walk with your horse as far in front to be on the side at his nose and as far back as at the cench line. If your horse is follow your lead this is not companion walking. The horse does not feel the magnetic bond in this position.
What causes the horses to take to companion walking is that the 5 riutals ahead of the companion walking rituals are really doing thier job.
You might also try getting a little more excitment on your horses with the last ritual so the energy is up.
Hope this is of help.
Carolyn
Yeah Stina! She is inspiring as well as being a kind and compassionate person!
Hi everyone,
I saw Stinas video on youtube some while ago and now I read her article in Hesteliv. Its very very inspiring – what I saw and what I read. I’m living very remote in the mountains of Norway. Since this winter I have been studying the waterhole rituals, the dvd’s and the book. Some of the horses here have truly shown me that it is fun to play and dance this way. But there do arise so many questions and confusing little situations so I’d love to have someone come up here and meet me and my herd and give me some feedback. I could arrange a clinic for more people in order to train and study the waterhole rituals together. (Is Stina only living in Caribean, or could she come and have a clinic in here in the Rondane mountains in Norway?)
What maybe does confuse me most of all with the rituals is the position for the magnetic connection: I have always avoided to be beside the horses eye – either I’m in front of him – a little bit off to one angle, or behind his shoulder. My horses show me that they rather want to have me in front of them as we have been doing so in many years. But I do agree that it seems to give them more control over me as long as they have me in front of them. After having played the ‘taking territory’ some times & maybe too much, they have become very very good at eye contact, so that they won’t leave me behind them anymore in that situation. What could I do then? Also I don’t manage to play the magnetic connection because the horses will always rather put me in front of them. They seem to experience it as pressure to have me directly beside their eye. And they try to avoid to have me behind for the leading from behind position.
I’m sure other students of the waterhole rituals have experienced similar confusions and it would be nice to get some tips how to advance with this.
I hope it is ok that I put these questions into your blog, Carolyn. It is such a wonderful way you propose with the waterhole rituals and I really want to understand and get along with it. It seems to be a method that strongly develops a bond and a deep relationship between horse and human and that is an element I have been searching for since a long time.
Yours sincerely
Tina Mareen
Thank you for posting the article, I am very happy and proud that we can share how to improve the connection and cooperation between people and horses. (and people and people..?)
It is such a gift to be coached by Carolyn, and I will soon write more here on the blog, how the online coaching is working for us.
Right now I am doing 20 rounds on improving the connection with my horses and you can see a video clip here from yesterday.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nTals_UMzU
It’s a long story, but from the wild and abused and sceptic horse, i spent very much time sharing territory, long time, days, weeks, months, then we entered a new stage, the horses were tame and i used too many treats, so it became all about the treats, so then we have now entered a new stage and that is improving the connection.
It’s about improving our cooperation, it is not about the treats.
I use treats, but that is just part of it, not the main thing.
I would love to share more of our journey with you all and how the online coaching is challenging us to take the next steps,
but for now, take a look at the new video clip we have in the last 2 months again made good progress.
All the 8 rounds are on my youtube channel

Maybe you can use some of it in your training.
Very moving, it reminds my path of rebellion and deep quest! And now that I saw the Panadero Journey’s dvd I did one more step in my interaction with horses. Thank you.
Beautiful evolution of understanding, Stina, and a testament to Carolyn’s Method and insight. I have just read “Naked Liberty” and viewed the “Waterhole Rituals”, and could not be more excited about sharing this diamond of a find with others. When we seek to understand, the miracles begin. Blessings on your journey!
