Cavalia Sneak Peek!

Last week I had the opportunity to be back stage with the horses of Cavalia. We were able to see the horses unload from the trailers that came from the last location of the show in San Francisco, California. I have to say I have never seen so many horses that looked so calm and relaxed about getting off the trailer and in such good condition and happy! Also impressive was the team of handlers and riders that helped to create a relaxed and extremely well organized environment.

Once the horses were out of the truck, we were given a private tour of the stable area of all of the horse stars of the show. It was amazing to see incredible tents and the immaculate stalls. The horses were groomed impeccably and the atmosphere was wonderful!

I was also able to meet the founder and artistic director of Cavalia- Normand Latourelle, which was quite an honor. His vision and the production of the show is incredible, and my hat is off to him!

We then were invited to watch Sylvia Zerbini working with her 9 Arabian horses at liberty. The fluidity of their movement watching them trot… Read more

Ears, Heads and Grooming

Hello. As you may know, I have a very close and long-standing relationship with Neda De Mayo, who does wonderful work at her American Wild Horse Sanctuary, Return to Freedom, in Lompoc, California.

American Wild Horse Sanctuary

Neda has been a long time student of mine and has introduced a number of people to my Method during her workshops. As were putting together today’s blog, we came across a very interesting question from the Insider Circle which I wanted to feature. As you will read, this person was indeed introduced to my work via Neda and Mark told me that he was on the same workshop and that’s how he found out about me too! So I’d like to thank Neda and say that if you ever get chance to visit the sanctuary, I really recommend it. They run a variety of different events and workshops there too and of course it’s a wonderful cause to support too.

In fact, large parts of my Waterhole Reflections DVD were shot at the ranch and it really is beautiful up there, especially in the Spring when all the flowers are out, so go take a visit.

OK, so on to the question, which… Read more

Training your horse using routine

Hello. Today’s story is about a horse named, Serpico. Now, Serpico was an Arabian gelding that I purchased at auction and he was just an absolutely beautiful Arabian. He was 16 hands, black liver chestnut, just gorgeous and we actually got him for very little money.

This didn’t make sense because he was such a nice horse but after we got him home, we started to get calls saying, “How is Serpico and are you okay?” And I would say, “Ooh, he’s doing wonderfully and is such a great horse.” But we got more and more calls asking about Serpico, so I asked one of the callers why they were asking.

Horse photo´s 2

Hello. First let me apologise for the lack of blog post yesterday. My tech guy said he had done it but had forgotten to hit the “go” button. I told him it must have been too much sun or Sangria or both! He assured me it wasn´t it and asked me to pass on his apologies too! Anyway, here is yesterday´s blog post…

Since our last publication of your photo´s, we´ve received a bunch more, so thought it would be nice to share these around too.

I love to see the expressions on the faces of their horses as well as study their body language and energy. Hope you do too.

Horse not paying attention

Time for another question. This one is from Alexandra who wrote to me from Germany.

I read about you in the german magazine “Cavallo”, then I bought your book ” Tochter der Mustangs “. I am very enthusiastic about the way you work with horses. I own an arabian horse mare, she is 17 years old. I am scared to do anything wrong, so I often do things, she wants to do. If she wants to graze, I let her graze. If we go for a walk, she always overtakes me. I can wave my whip or the knot, she slows down for a moment, then she overtakes me again. She doesn`t pay any attention to me… I am looking forward to your answer very much!!

————————————————————————————————————————-

Dear Alexandra,

My advice for now is stop letting her decide her direction. Ask her to stand at your side and wait till she relaxes. When she is relaxed, begin walking in a direction of your choice and not hers. The minute she wants to be in charge and tries to pass you, stop and lead her back to the spot where she stood quietly and wait till she settles, then begin again.… Read more
