My Virtual Simulator for Teaching Riding

When I was a kid, I had an old horse and he did not know how to do anything but what he was told because of the years of service he was use to. I was not skilled enough to ride him without guidance even though he would do what you told him to. I did not know how to activate the gas pedal and break in relationship to the turning aids, and make the needed adjustments in order to ride a horse. Riding a horse is not an easy matter. Once we learn, it is as easy as breathing, so we easily forget how much we know, how much we have learned, and how much awareness we need to bring to a beginning rider as teachers of horsemanship.

I have wanted to construct a quad where the breaks would sometimes work too sensitively, and range to less and less sensitive, to not working at all-or it might even go faster when applying the breaks. Turning the vehicle would work with the same irregularities. Sometimes I dream of this teaching aid. If any one knows how to create this monster I would love to talk to you about building… Read more

Greetings from the Ranch!

Hope you all are staying warm and enjoying the holidays! We are in full swing of the WRIC and In–the-Box Program’s Beyond the Waterhole Rituals™ Clinic and I wanted to share some of the highlights with you! Our weather has been great! We have not had any rainfall, and some days have actually been T-Shirt weather. Sometimes we have to bundle up in the morning, but then it warms right up. The girls in the clinic inspire me to work till the sun goes down! As for our daily activities, we have started with morning meditations and Sharing Territory ™. Then we go into Liberty Dancing, Uberstriechen Exercises, and Single Lining. My horse Liberty has had the opportunity to demonstrate the Dinner and Dancing room as well! Alessandra’s horse Rosalie has been the star teacher! I think we are all having a great time- I know I am, and so are the ponies! I am amazed at how fast the class is learning. The Insider Circle and the new Extended Circle program for next year, is definitely the way to go. We are getting rid of the name “In the Box” program – nobody wants to be in a box!… Read more

Thank you!

This is a very wonderful Christmas. I have made so many friends through my work and the blog. So many people to say thank you to. Thank you Stina for your constant development with your horses using my Method. I hope all travelers get to visit your horse programs in the jungle with your wild herd. Thank you Shelly Martin for continuing my Method with Panadero. Shelley is now riding bridless without a neck rope, I could not be prouder. Thank you to Lisa Zarcades for all you have done to bring awareness to a better way to connect with horses through Panadero and your work with Shelly and myself.

I am over the loss of my 35 year old horse, Stony. It has been more than a year since he was put down from colic. Lad, Cat and Marchador are all fine and are looking to teach more people my Method.

Horse photo’s 3

Well, it’s nearly the weekend, so I thought it would be nice to have some more photo’s and thanks to everyone for sending them in.

I will be telling you next week about a story concerning Robin Gates, a student of mine for over 25 years and a close friend. After Robin told me this story about a particular mare, we had a good laugh and cry. Robin later told me that she did not sleep that night and wrote this poem.

Christmas card!

Hello everyone, hope you had a good weekend.

Last week in the comments following my Try somthing simple blog post, Mikey told us about the Christmas card she made last year with 14 of her horses. As so many people were subsequently asking to see it, we asked Mikey to send it in and here it is below!

And if any of you can top that with a horse/celebration picture of your own – do please send it in too.

I’d also like to say a big thank you too to Janet for the ‘award’ she gave me over on her blog“When my horse Shiloh and I grow up, we want to be just like Carolyn and her horses!”. I will be presenting my own set of Blog Awards to blogs I like and people I admire sometime over the next few weeks, so look out for those.
