Working Student Position

Have you ever dreamed about creating a better relationship with your horse?

I’m searching for an apprentice/working student, who has experience in horse training and a background in dressage preferably, to work alongside me as my personal assistant for a minimum period of at least three months.

The position is unpaid and in exchange for being my personal assistant and working in my office helping me write new teaching materials or creating new educational DVD’s, I offer you the opportunity of a lifetime to learn my Method and possibly go on to receive certification in it.

You will have the opportunity to work with my horses and assist me in teaching clinics and be coached in dressage with my Method from the ground and under saddle.

Times and hours are flexible but generally likely to be Monday-Friday. If you are interested in coming to work for me in Escondido, CA, please send your resume/C.V. to info@carolynresnick.com along with an email explaining why you think you would like to work with me.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Carolyn

Welcome back, and if you live in the US, I hope you enjoyed your 4th of July celebrations.

If you have been reading my blog for some time, then you will know that I believe any relationship with a should be based on a deep heart connection. So before we even start to train a horse with traditional methods, I believe we should take the time to bond with him and shape his character and attitude to fit in harmony with us. My focus is on developing a personal bond and demonstrating appropriate leadership to build a “magical” connection between horse and rider.

The magic between the two happens when the horse instantaneously understands our intentions and there are no delays or discrepancies in the interaction. The team moves in unity, like horses move in a free running herd. A relationship with this kind of connection brings well being to both human and horse.

When a horse is not enthusiastic about what he is doing, it is very rare to get an exceptional performance out of him whether on the ground or under saddle, in competition or otherwise. However, enthusiasm can be easily built before long before the introduction… Read more

Realizing Responsibility

More people are taking a new turn for themselves in regards to their relationship with horses. Less people are prone to want a horse to serve them in some way. People are beginning to want a horse to have a relationship with them instead of looking at a horse as an object that is dispensable, that they can get rid of, when their child goes off to college for example.

All of this is such good news and as things are changing more people are realizing that a horse is something you need to care for all his life and if we are going to own one we should keep it to the end if we can. I just had a horse at my ranch get an ulcer and the bill is really very high. He was in the hospital for two days and now he has been put on medicine that costs US$45.00 a day. He needs to be on it for 30 days. I should have had insurance but I did not.

The point of this message is that horses can be expensive and we need to be able to handle the costs as they occur.… Read more

Staying in harmony and unity

Hi. I’d like to start off by thanking you for all the emails and messages you send. I’m often inspired by the wonderful stories and indeed was moved to write this following an email from a lady called Liz. Liz has what I call a true partnership and if she wrote a book, we would all benefit from it.

Her experience with horses is the formula in how to have a great connection and partnership with horses. It boils down to heart, caretaking leadership, experience and education. I was especially moved by Liz’s letter and pictures because it reminds me of my own personal journey with horses in my life. Liz has the right education and a natural gift with horses. It is the secret in getting along with them. I believe that most people who are drawn to horses, who understand caretaking leadership, can have this kind of relationship with a horse with the proper training and experience. Liz has put in the time and been educated in a proper manner.

Most people today do not put enough thought into becoming educated and matching the horse in their life with their ability. Once you have had enough… Read more

The Carolyn Resnick Method School

The Sorraia Center for Equine Facilitated Learning

At the end of 2008, an apprentice student Virginia Vassette came to me and presented architectural plans for a horsemanship school I had talked to her about in our Self Realization and spiritual evolution course. Virginia put my dream down on paper as her project design for her graduation term paper from San Diego Design School. It was a grand surprise!

Because of Virginia’s work and her continued interest in my project and my own desire to have a permanent school for the general public I am now looking forward to bringing the school into operation. So far, people are excited about the school and its purpose. Because the Waterhole Rituals are an evolutionary experience in learning, I envision the school to grow in the same manner.

Waterhole Rituals question 2

A few weeks ago, Nicole from Canada wrote in with a couple of questions and this second one ties up nicely with this weeks post on Unconditional love. Nicole wrote:

The other question I have is with regards to ’round penning’. I use quotes for this term because I seldom put a horse into a round pen for this work, more often it’s in a 2 acre paddock with 3-4 horses. When I have a horse that does not come when called or leaves when I’m haltering, I will drive them off and separate them from their herd. I used to do this with a lot of energy and make them go at least at a trot, if not more. There would be lots of directional changes, both inward and outward turns. Then I would ask them to come back to me and most of the time they come running in.
