Harmony, trust and being in the moment

When I look back on my experience with the wild horses, what it meant to me then and what it means to me now, I realize I have never lost sight of the importance of horses and the natural environment.

Horses have impacted our lives throughout history, and nature promotes their well-being through the harmony of diversity. I appreciate life and wait to be in harmony with my environment before I act. To know horses as deeply as I know them comes from my understanding of harmony. Harmony is not made, it is found. Harmony in nature is the most trusted element in life and is the basis of the success I share with horses.

Humans honor intelligence. We spend time thinking. Horses honor instinct. They spend time being in the moment.

Working with horses is one way people can learn to be here now and get in touch with their instincts. We normally think of instincts as base but I think of instinct as being plugged into the universal connection… and when you are, you do not make mistakes!

Instinct is just as deep and rich as intelligence. Animals know what time it is. They do… Read more

Taking the Long Journey

A cultivated understanding of the culture of horses enables us to fit in with them, train them and befriend them and brings out a horse’s desire to bond and follow our lead, as well as an amazing ability to perform for us in all equestrian pursuits. Just picking up some tips to be able to get along with horses has some serious drawbacks. Trying to fix horses that do not fit with their jobs or with our abilities also has drawbacks. Taking the long journey to get to know horses has no drawbacks and offers a more enjoyable experience that is far reaching. You evolve your ability to create a connection with horses from being able to acquire a state of being and consciousness that horses are drawn to.

The best way to acquire this cultivation is by being present in the moment when a horse feels safe and comfortable. We need to spend time watching horses with a keen eye to learn how horses communicate with one another, and how horses train horses and how leadership in horses can be gross as well as highly sophisticated, since it comes from an care taking approach. Care taking lead horses have… Read more

The Responsibilities of Owning A Horse

Hello again.

So many people have come to my Method who want to ride a horse as well as have a deep bond with them. Some are looking for solutions to behavioral problems. Many people are feeling snubbed by their horses. Others cannot gain respect whilst some are on a journey in search of a way to connect with a horse in the moment of unity and harmony.

What I offer through the Waterhole Rituals™ is support through a journey by accepting the horse for who he is right now and building a relationship in the most natural way. The Waterhole Rituals™ offer an enjoyable process to bring horses and humans together using rituals that horses use to develop a working partnership with one another. If you have the horse of your dreams and a wonderful riding horse, the Rituals will help you to develop a deeper connection in friendship.

Many people have discovered that horses, like people, have different personalities and that this needs to be considered when dealing with horses. The most important aspect of having a horse is picking the right horse to fit your purpose and personality. Horses are like shoes. Not only is… Read more

The art of horsemanship

The art of horsemanship starts every day not at the end of the journey. It starts with the first breath and at the moment you and your horse are in the same state of awareness in harmony. It takes a spiritual journey to develop a partnership with a horse. It takes consistently focusing on keeping the magnetic connection alive between you and your horse by managing the relationship and keeping the training on the horse as well as adding training. This keeps the horse young and motivated.

Working a horse at liberty gives the horse a sense of freedom and the horse can express himself more honestly. From this honesty, you can see more how to approach your training. The other aspect of working a horse at liberty is that a horse will trust you more, bringing out the side of his nature to follow your lead naturally.

The act of controlling a horse will develop a horse that needs to be controlled. What would be better is that the horse is more than willing to perform and take direction. Taking the time to get a horse to volunteer his performance is fun and life enhancing and will achieve a… Read more

Staying in harmony and unity

Hi. I’d like to start off by thanking you for all the emails and messages you send. I’m often inspired by the wonderful stories and indeed was moved to write this following an email from a lady called Liz. Liz has what I call a true partnership and if she wrote a book, we would all benefit from it.

Her experience with horses is the formula in how to have a great connection and partnership with horses. It boils down to heart, caretaking leadership, experience and education. I was especially moved by Liz’s letter and pictures because it reminds me of my own personal journey with horses in my life. Liz has the right education and a natural gift with horses. It is the secret in getting along with them. I believe that most people who are drawn to horses, who understand caretaking leadership, can have this kind of relationship with a horse with the proper training and experience. Liz has put in the time and been educated in a proper manner.

Most people today do not put enough thought into becoming educated and matching the horse in their life with their ability. Once you have had enough… Read more

The Sorraia Center – part 2

Hello and thank you for all your comments and I will be writing some blog posts soon about my Uberstreichen excercises as so many of you were asking about them. Before then though, I’d like to tell you a little more about my vision for my school.

The program’s study will center around three wild horse herds consisting of caretaking lead stallions and their mares and foals on enough land to bring for 30 horses with extra feed when necessary. There will also be birth control management and horses relocated to proper environments as the numbers increase. The Sorraia Center will be a model to show how more effective ways for educating students and better methods in leadership communication through programs that bring more experiential learning, relationship and community participation.

The School will offer programs in horse behavior studies to understand the culture of horses. How horse creates their language and educate their young to bring about a unified herd in harmony and how they achieve their ability to work together as a team for community survival. There will be an intimate study of the pecking order proving that it is a system that supports the community and the weakest… Read more

The Sorraia Center

Earlier on the blog, sometime in January, I introduced the idea of a school or educational center called the “Sorraia Center”. For those of you that are interested in the school and the ideas I have for it, I have written about it here and will continue to develop the direction of its studies and post these ideas on the blog occasionally for you to follow and support.

My vision for the Sorraia Center beyond the cultural studies of horses is to highlight how students and teachers can work together as a team in reaching the goals of the school’s programs. In our culture today, we have lost team working skills and the deep fulfillment and personal well-being that comes from serving community and which I want to bring back to humanity.
