Some horse training tips

Hi. Apologies for those of you who were expecting today’s blog post a little earlier. Somehow the day just ran ahead of us, you know how it goes sometimes!

I often get asked what is the best method for training a horse and I think you know me well enough by now to know that I’m not that prescriptive. So, for people who are really confused about all the different rules and methods of training a horse, I want to help you make your choices in deciding which way to turn.

The Carolyn Resnick Method

Hi. I was asked the other day if I could sum up what my Method, DVDs and courses are all about and what makes me different to other horse trainers. So I sat down and tried to condense my philosophy into a few sentences, which wasn’t so easy! Anyway, please find below what I wrote, I hope it resonates with you.

Before we get to that though, I have a small survey it would be great if you could complete so as to give us some feedback. It’s very easy, just check one of the choices and click vote. Thank you.

Hi again. Before I get on to today’s post, I ‘d like to tell you about a special event that’s taking place at my ranch on Saturday October 4th.

If you own an ex-racehorse or are planning to purchase one… come and join horse racing hall-of-famer and Parelli student Julie Krone, race horse trainer Jack Frazier, ex amateur jockey Alessandra Deerinck DVM and myself for an open discussion about how we can all help racehorses make the transition from the racetrack to a second career.

You will also be able to see Alessandra work with her horse Rosalie, aka ex-racehorse Downtown Rosalie, and watch their progress towards bridleless riding and dressage using my Method.

A bobcat and me

One morning when I was walking, I met a large bobcat. We surprised each other at the end of a tree line path. We were about 15 feet apart. I was delighted to run across him as bobcats are elusive by nature. What amazed me was that he didn’t run, instead he appeared alarmed for only a second and then he accepted my presence and then joined me on my walk.

He was in a playful mood as we walked together and expressed it with a jaunty stride as he smelled plants and tussled around in the dust, leaping about catching invisible prey. He walked ahead then he waited for me to catch up with him. When I got ahead I waited for him. Eventually he lost interest and ambled into the distance across the dry riverbank. I have often wondered what his version of our story would be.
