Panadero’s Dance

Hi. I really liked the video that Stina put up on YouTube of Panadero and me. She was visiting me for some further instruction on how to proceed with her own horses using the Waterhole Rituals. I am sharing it with you because it gives me the opportunity to explain the proper approach on how to move forward in training a horse at liberty once a clear foundation has been created.

If you cannot watch this version where you are, try the one at the bottom of the post

To keep Panadero’s performance in balance and our connection at its best, I vary his daily routines with slow work and fast work to maintain the connection and his interest. In this video, my focus is to working him with fast interactions.

I was suggesting that Stina could work her horses with a little more energy because they have acclimated and bonded with her quite well. I suggest to my students to first start liberty training using the Waterhole Rituals slowly with lots of pauses and short sessions. I will then ask the horse to work with me a little faster as this is what gives… Read more

Thank you!

This is a very wonderful Christmas. I have made so many friends through my work and the blog. So many people to say thank you to. Thank you Stina for your constant development with your horses using my Method. I hope all travelers get to visit your horse programs in the jungle with your wild herd. Thank you Shelly Martin for continuing my Method with Panadero. Shelley is now riding bridless without a neck rope, I could not be prouder. Thank you to Lisa Zarcades for all you have done to bring awareness to a better way to connect with horses through Panadero and your work with Shelly and myself.

I am over the loss of my 35 year old horse, Stony. It has been more than a year since he was put down from colic. Lad, Cat and Marchador are all fine and are looking to teach more people my Method.

Telepathy with your horse

Hello again. Today I wanted to add to the story about Panadero and his Spanish Walk that I told you about here last week. If you recall, I went to work with him not having done so for three months.

The last time I had worked with him his Spanish Walk had been very green and he could maybe only do about 25 feet. When I asked him for it three months later, he had it on him like he was a seasoned horse.

So what I wanted to add was that one of the other reasons he did the Spanish Walk so beautifully was it was something that I could feel in him that day because of the relationship we had developed before. I had asked him to do something else but he did not do it immediately. He was telling me that what he wanted to do something else instead and telepathically I guessed he wanted to do the Spanish walk.

The lesson I would like to discuss today is how our horses behave when they have not been worked on a regular basis.

Normally, if we turn a horse out in a big field and just leave him for a week or maybe a month and then bring him back to ride, he will often be just wild. Most horses need to be worked on a daily basis, five days a week so that we can depend on them not to be too out of control. I find that interesting because horses we train with the Waterhole Rituals do not have that problem.

Horse training takes time… or does it?

Hello, hope you had a good weekend. Well, I have just got back in today from training a horse by the name of Marchadero (not Panadero – see comment 6 below). I was thinking about him after our session and I could not believe how far we have come together.

It has been so exciting working with him through the Waterhole Rituals. Today, we were working on the last Ritual, which is Go Trot and Come Up. What you want here is that you send your horse off and he runs away at top speed and then you call him back and he turns around and runs back as fast as he left. This is what I got today with Marchador. It was absolutely brilliant. He did it three times straight on his own. I did not ask for a fourth time. I was thrilled where his at this time in his life and the training he has done so far.

Tales from the mountains – part 1

Hello and a happy 4th of July to you!

I am delighted to announce the first in what we hope will be a series of stories from Margaret who featured on the post Being in nature. We have been exchanging messages with each other and I asked her if she wouldn’t mind sharing some of her journey with us as she gets to know her mare, Amber, in the 230 acres they and 30 other horses share up there in the mountains in northern California. Margaret seems to experience the same joy as I do from the simple pleasures to be found in nature and her stories bring a smile to my heart, I hope they do to yours too.

Have a super weekend and I look forward to talking with you again next week.

Pecking order

Hi. The story that I am going to share with you today is about a horse that you may have seen on some of my videos by the name of Panadero. He is an Andalusian Stallion and he is absolutely just the most expressive horse you could ever wish to meet.

Everyday that I went out to see him he would run up to me and we would play this game where we used to run along the fence of his paddock.
