Hi there. Before I get into today’s post, I wanted to remind you about the call I am doing on Sunday at 10am Pacific, 1pm Eastern on the subject of the use of rollkur in dressage and why I think it’s not only wrong but unnecessary. You can find out more about the call by going to the DressageDisgrace site. Here is the link: http://www.dressagedisgrace.com/teleseminar-carolyn-resnick
I invented the Uberstreichen Exercises to help me train dressage horses and then Arabian show horses for my junior students. They helped me produce more relaxation, performance and consistent collection at the shows for my junior riders. Libby Ouellette suggested the name Uberstreichen Exercises and I thought it was appropriate. She was a Hilda Gurney student at the time who was also a student of mine and is now a long time family friend.
Uberstreichen is a term used in dressage that is a test to see if your horse is in self-carriage or leaning on the rein for support. You release the contact rein and if the horse stays in frame without the reins for a few strides he is in self-carriage. If he falls immediately, he is leaning on… Read more

Today we continue Connie’s story of the bond she has forged with her herd of horses, a bond deepened and made more rewarding by the Waterhole Rituals…
Hope you enjoy the conclusion of her tale and I’ll back Thursday with more on the Uberstreichen Excercises.
Carolyn
It helped me to smile and say outloud what a beautiful day it was to be alive and remark on the stunning view–it took me to a place of gratitude and presence that caused endorphins to be circulating within me rather than adrenaline. These regular ‘conversations’ I have are not lost on my animal companions, of that I am certain.
After a few more minutes of reverie, I told Chasta that now that I was here and allowed her continued freedom, it was my obligation as leader to take them to the grass that I promised them and that there was some nearby in a swale where water drains down from the top of the ridge. I asked her to please come to me when she was ready and that I would lead her there so the others could follow. She acknowledged me with her eye and ear but did not move. I

Today I am sharing the first part of a story with you from a friend and another one of my Insider Circle students, Connie Funk. It is stories such as this that make my work teaching others so rewarding.
Connie writes so beautifully and always from the heart and if you like her style, her first book “Beauty from Brokenness” is now available from the Other Products page of the website.
I’ll be writing again on Thursday with more information on the free Uberstreichen Exercises class that I’ll be running over the Winter. If you haven’t registered yet or have sent in an email or you have just written only a very brief comment to last Thursday’s post, then remember I need the following from you if you want to take part:

It looks like we might not be running the ‘In a Box’ Program this winter after all as the weather looks like it will be too cold for most people, so I may end up postponing the course till sometime late spring. If this happens, those who have prepaid will have their tuition fees returned.
This is Julia Felton’s last week with me as a working student. For people who live in the UK and would like to learn my Method from her, you can contact her at Julia@connect-thru-horses.com. So now I am looking for another person that would like the opportunity to be a working student with me. I have a great horse for you to learn how to train bridleless and to develop your dressage skills under saddle with my Method plus all my ground training at liberty. You should be aware though that there is no salary attached to this position and you will have to take care of your own living expenses but of course all the tuition is free! If you are interested in this position or for more information, please contact me at info@carolynresnick.com.

I am back from my presentation to a group of equestrian women that gather each year with their horses to celebrate and promote community activities on horseback. Julia Felton from the UK, a working student for the past four months, went with me as my coordinator and personal assistant. This year the group had 51 riders. It was their 15th Annual Ride on Catalina Island. They call their organization the Las Caballeras ride.
I gave one of my presentations at the Escondido Ranch, which is the original Wrigley Ranch, and I got to meet Alison Wrigley-Rusack. Not only did I have the opportunity to meet Alison but I got to use her prize black Arabian Gelding, Zanadu, for my presentation of the Waterhole Rituals™. Alison had purchased Zanadu to be her special horse after falling in love with the stallion in the movie the Black Stallion. Zanadu had led most of his life as a stallion and was recently gelded. Even gelded Zanadu was every bit as animated and beautiful as the stallion in the movie.
We also got a private tour of the Wrigley museum that held at least 15 Bohlin saddles, matching bridles and breast collars belonging to… Read more
