I have another new horse sighting. It was with a student of mine. She had not ridden her horse for some time and rode him. She started him back with all the precautions one would take to bring a horse back, but did not share space with her horse or make a great personal love fest connection. She did not do that with this horse because she never needed to do the rituals with him before.
Well, he bucked really badly but showed no signs that he would object to her getting on him at the time. She was sure he was fine. During the bucking, he paused and she jumped off. As soon as she did, the bucking continued. As she stood there in shock, the horse stopped bucking and gradually walked back up to her. At that point, she thought that getting back on again would not be a good idea and decided to take things much slower. Over the next two weeks, she worked her horse by hand walking him, sharing territory, and lunging him. He was also tied up around the barn and horse trailer. Occasionally, she would saddle him up, but not ride him,… Read more

The weekend is over and I had a new horse sighting that I am so excited to share with you! We have a new horse here on the ranch that is difficult to bridle. He is a dressage horse and will do most anything to get out of having to put a bridle on. He hates the bridle – but still every time he winds up losing and performing against his better judgment and wishes.
So Sad. It reminds me of when I was five years old and taking lessons in dance. My mother drove me 20 miles each way to where the dance studio was. My teacher was an old man that always spoke mean to me and hit me with his cane if I did not dance exactly how I was to perform. The ride to the studio was always miserable, and I dreaded going to what I knew would be an awful experience. The funny thing was, no one could tell that I was unhappy about the experience because I looked happy out on the dance floor. The knots in my stomach did not match the joy that I appeared to be experiencing.
I know this… Read more

Hello. Hope you liked the idea last week about the podcast and haven’t been put off too much by all the technology. Mark said that there have been a few emails, so he has set up an page on the site, where you can ask questions and more importantly read the responses. Click FAQ Page to read more.
I am delighted to be able to announce our first podcast has arrived and here it is:
Nature Helps in Bonding With Horses – read by Beth Schang
In future, we will post all new recordings on this special Podcasts Page as well as on their relevant post. Thanks Beth – very nice!
So today’s post is a continuation of our discussion last week about boundaries. Now that I have shared with you my observations about rude behavior and how horses use flexible boundaries that create a cohesive herd and deep friendships, you might ask how boundaries could create friendships between horses so I would like to explain this point.
When someone is rude, they do not care about the other person’s feelings. Once a person cares about someone there is a natural politeness that follows that also brings… Read more

The Waterhole Rituals™ are a way of being and interacting with a horse. Use the Rituals as guide and way of thinking to help you develop your ability to train and create a program for your horse in the most harmonious way.
The Rituals help all equestrians find their own solutions and be creative by developing a program of training for their horse that allows the horse to shape their leadership to be effective and desirable. The Waterhole Rituals™ are not meant to be a problem solver or a method that should stand alone from other methods unless you are training with me directly. They are a support system for all other forms of horse training systems and techniques, including learning how to ride. My Method is an additive for any program and method that needs more support in developing the connection you share with your horse.
I would like to say that a lot of people get confused that my Method will help them to have a better relationship under saddle from the bond when they don’t have the skill for riding. To ride a horse takes experience and education. You can develop a great connection for riding… Read more

Last week Sally asked a good question in the comments section of the blog about how the practice of the Waterhole Rituals™ relate to riding and training horses when there are no fences or arenas to contain the horse. I will answering this question for you in my two blogs this week.
The Waterhole Rituals™ are a unique method of working with your horse by working with the horse’s natural instincts. The Rituals do not train your horse per se but rather they provide a means whereby you can communicate effectively with your horse in a language that he understands that also builds the trust you need when you go to ride him. By communicating with him in this manner, you create a bond of friendship and trust with your horse where he sees you as the leader, which in turn causes the horse to be more willing and more connected. The strength of this connection allows the horse to feel secure and so in my experience the horse offers you more performance under saddle than you would have without the practice of the Waterhole Rituals™.
Consider your own relationship with your best friend. If you have a great… Read more

The definition of a spiritual connection is that when the mind, bond and soul is entirely shared in the moment with your horse in a bonded connection in harmony and unity. Please do not use the Waterhole Rituals until you understand how to apply them and their purpose.
There are seven heartfelt strings of connection.
1. Bond
2. Trust
3. Respect
4. Willingness
5. Focus
6. Magnetic Connection
7. Desire and energy necessary for dancing.
For example in the last step if your horse is really too relaxed and not paying attention, then work him fast with you at a moments notice following your lead. Alternatively, if working fast would make him nervous because he is too hyper then his energy needs to be aligned.
When you go to your horse with my program you first must be in the moment and wait until you are completely balanced with no thought of the past or future outside of the territory you are sharing with your horse. You open your awareness to everything in the moment and the changing conditions that occur like a lead horse would. To get in a state of mind… Read more

I’ve often been asked whether wild and domestic horses are the same or different from one another. Here’s my take on it
Gifted animal communicators who work with wild animals are focused on making the same connection and follow the same rules of communication that my Waterhole Rituals are focused on. Your connection and leadership with the Waterhole Rituals are on the animals’ terms and not on your own because of the mood and the ability to control the relationship. One minute you can have a connection and the next you do not. In fact it is easier to read a wild animals shift in attitude than with a domestic horse.
