The art of horsemanship

The art of horsemanship starts every day not at the end of the journey. It starts with the first breath and at the moment you and your horse are in the same state of awareness in harmony. It takes a spiritual journey to develop a partnership with a horse. It takes consistently focusing on keeping the magnetic connection alive between you and your horse by managing the relationship and keeping the training on the horse as well as adding training. This keeps the horse young and motivated.

Working a horse at liberty gives the horse a sense of freedom and the horse can express himself more honestly. From this honesty, you can see more how to approach your training. The other aspect of working a horse at liberty is that a horse will trust you more, bringing out the side of his nature to follow your lead naturally.

The act of controlling a horse will develop a horse that needs to be controlled. What would be better is that the horse is more than willing to perform and take direction. Taking the time to get a horse to volunteer his performance is fun and life enhancing and will achieve a… Read more

How to use the Waterhole Rituals

The definition of a spiritual connection is that when the mind, bond and soul is entirely shared in the moment with your horse in a bonded connection in harmony and unity. Please do not use the Waterhole Rituals until you understand how to apply them and their purpose.

There are seven heartfelt strings of connection.
1. Bond
2. Trust
3. Respect
4. Willingness
5. Focus
6. Magnetic Connection
7. Desire and energy necessary for dancing.

For example in the last step if your horse is really too relaxed and not paying attention, then work him fast with you at a moments notice following your lead. Alternatively, if working fast would make him nervous because he is too hyper then his energy needs to be aligned.

When you go to your horse with my program you first must be in the moment and wait until you are completely balanced with no thought of the past or future outside of the territory you are sharing with your horse. You open your awareness to everything in the moment and the changing conditions that occur like a lead horse would. To get in a state of mind… Read more

Using Your Core Energy Story

On Tuesday I was speaking about using Core Energy with the first Waterhole Ritual, and I promised you a story. Before I start the story, I want to say that when the core is strong it is the blue print of who you are, and what you know and your intentions and a instant way to communicate with like minds. When cores communicate, there is a magnetic attraction.

I had a lovely gelding named Navarre and he loved people and did not like horses as a rule. One day Sutter, a beautiful palomino stallion, wild most all of his life arrived at my ranch who could talk from his core. When I took him out of the horse trailer all the horses were on alert. Because of the core energy both horses held, Navarre and Sutter clearly communicated with one another with no sounds, thoughts, or anything tangible. We all acknowledged that we were aware of their connection. I could tell that Navarre had a different feeling for Sutter than he had ever shown to any other horse. My core energy could feel the energy that hung in the air around is. From reading Sutter’s, core energy, Navarre fell… Read more

Developing the connection

Hi again. Thank you for all your interest and kind comments about my new Waterhole Rituals Insider Circle Program. I was delighted that it proved so popular with you and in fact it sold out. We therefore decided to run a second class for all those who could not get in and you can sign up for this now at the Coaching page. Both classes will begin towards the end of May.

Right on to today’s post and I’d like to talk about something we will be talking a lot about on the Program and that is developing the connection with your horse.

To keep this magical connection you share with your horse each day and out of respect, you should check in to see if he is still feeling the bond he shares with you. Have you unknowingly violated his trust? Do you need to re-establish the trust before you begin your work? Does he want to join in with the activities you have planned for him? Does he run to meet you at the gate because he is looking forward to your work together? If you can lead him without a halter and he will swish his… Read more

Well, thank you so much, what an amazing response to my question! I said it would be interesting and so it turned out to be. Mark has compiled a top 10 list of your ‘wants’, which I will post at the end.

As you remember from last week, I was talking about horsemanship, trust and connection, which lead me on to asking the question about what you would like your partner to be. Now the reason I asked this was, and this is going to sound a bit out of place, but a horse wants to be treated like a woman wants to be treated.

Jasper the rescue horse

Hi. I was saying last week how many wonderful letters and emails I receive and here’s another one that I really wanted to put on the blog. It’s from a lady from Northern California with the lovely name of Indigo. The reason for putting it on the blog was twofold. One is to help people understand that they need to take more time on the relationship with their horse and that training is more than a 20 minute experience. Indigo’s story demonstrates this beautifully.

The second reason was that it also illustrates that there is this kind of field of dreams and connections, as you will see when you read the whole story.

Journaling your horse training

Hello again. It’s amazing to see how profoundly touched many of you have been by Margaret stories. In fact, I hope to publish some journals and stories of people’s relationships with horses using my Method. Today’s post is an example of this and so if you would like to see your work in a book, please send your entries to info@carolynresnick.com.

This is journal entry from Lori, who writes:

8-15-08 A Magical and Unexpected Experience

I worked with Ben today on the Waterhole Rituals. Since this was going to be the first time for Ben, I lunged him first to make sure that his energy level was low and that he was warmed up if he wanted to run around when I turned him loose. Then I took the lead rope off and took some hay into the center of the ring. He began to eat. I walked around the arena for a while and then sat down in the sand to watch him. Of all of the horses I have dealt with he was the most calm but alert at the same time. He would intently look to see where I was from time to… Read more
