This blog was inspired by one of my Insiders Circle student’s comments on the blog, thank you Connie Huibregtse. Connie, You can make joy happen because Joy is a practice.
Horses are great helpers to return us to a natural state of joy and well-being, a state that we often take for granted or think we do not have. Wanting or not wanting joy does not change the fact that there is always joy within our core of existence. The reason I know this is that you cannot know what it is not to have joy unless you have experienced having it in the first place.
Some people may feel guilty for thoughts of feeling joyful when others around them are suffering. How to step over feelings of guilt is to understand that when you exercise joyful states of being within yourself and acknowledge the joy that is always present, it effects the well-being of others in a positive way. It is more a powerful tool for effecting change and the well-being of others than any other. Going with the flow of nature helps nature to support us. This is a note on how the Insider Circle is doing. I have read many of your stories and how many of you are having incredible experiences with your horses doing nothing… leading to something that could have never taken place if we had not be practicing the importance of the pause with the First Ritual, “Sharing Territory”. Some of you are going to be able to bring new discoveries to the horse world from your experiences being in this class. From these shared experiences, we will discover things that we did not know. From these shared experiences the world of horsemanship will advance and I will be learning new things as well.
We are always in the experimentation of creating willing connections and growing friendships with horses if we are truly present in the moment and a true leader, healer and student. Everyday I am learning something more about horses.
The horses enjoy our company as much as we do theirs and when this happens the dance is really quite natural but it surely is not a race to the dry cleaners. Sharing territory in the pause of feeling connected, horses are more willing to bond with us… Read more

Last Friday I told the story of how my long-time friend and Certified Trainer, Robin Gates, overcame resistance with a horse she was training. I asked for your thoughts on the matter and thank you to those of you who offered your opinions in response.
This kind of feedback is so valuable for everyone who reads the blog as we all get a different perspective on the subject in hand, which maybe causes us to rethink our own conclusions. So thank you again.
For what it’s worth then, here is my opinion on how Robin viewed and dealt with the situation.
