Leadership with horses

In their everyday need for survival, horses have created a communication system that is noteworthy. Wild horses are like a society of nomadic people who have leaders of leaders. Because nature’s habitat for horses is open rangeland, each horse has freedom to pick and choose a band of horses where he or she fits in and where his or her personality type is needed.

I have observed three major behaviors in horses: Leadership behavior, dominant behavior and submissive behavior. These behaviors are also the personality types as well. Herds are made up of the right balance of personalities, with each personality fitting perfectly in the chain of command. If the herd makeup is not harmonious, then this is when horses tend to move.

I’ve often been asked whether wild and domestic horses are the same or different from one another. Here’s my take on it

Gifted animal communicators who work with wild animals are focused on making the same connection and follow the same rules of communication that my Waterhole Rituals are focused on. Your connection and leadership with the Waterhole Rituals are on the animals’ terms and not on your own because of the mood and the ability to control the relationship. One minute you can have a connection and the next you do not. In fact it is easier to read a wild animals shift in attitude than with a domestic horse.

A bobcat and me

One morning when I was walking, I met a large bobcat. We surprised each other at the end of a tree line path. We were about 15 feet apart. I was delighted to run across him as bobcats are elusive by nature. What amazed me was that he didn’t run, instead he appeared alarmed for only a second and then he accepted my presence and then joined me on my walk.

He was in a playful mood as we walked together and expressed it with a jaunty stride as he smelled plants and tussled around in the dust, leaping about catching invisible prey. He walked ahead then he waited for me to catch up with him. When I got ahead I waited for him. Eventually he lost interest and ambled into the distance across the dry riverbank. I have often wondered what his version of our story would be.

Prequel to training horses by email

Hi again. I’ve been told that what I’m about to show to you today is the same thing the Star Wars guy did. In other words, this post should have come before the other one, Training horses by email (Apr 28).

Anyway, several of you have been asking what Stina’s horses were like when she took them in and she has in fact produced a video showing just that.
