The Sorraia Center for Equine Facilitated Learning

At the end of 2008, an apprentice student Virginia Vassette came to me and presented architectural plans for a horsemanship school I had talked to her about in our Self Realization and spiritual evolution course. Virginia put my dream down on paper as her project design for her graduation term paper from San Diego Design School. It was a grand surprise!

Because of Virginia’s work and her continued interest in my project and my own desire to have a permanent school for the general public I am now looking forward to bringing the school into operation. So far, people are excited about the school and its purpose. Because the Waterhole Rituals are an evolutionary experience in learning, I envision the school to grow in the same manner.

Power to you, Carolyn! With all of the energy coming your way on your blog, I am totally convinced that your dream will mature into reality. My greatest wish then is to be able to spend time there with you, other students and the horses, not an easy task since I live in Sweden – but dreams are there to give us direction and empowerment – and to realize when the time is ripe!

    Carolyn,
I wish you every success possible to put your plans into place. I would love to come down to visit you sometime for lessons, but that will take some saving up too:) I have a great setting here in Canada for such a type of learning experience. I wish I could talk you into coming to Canada for the summer & do it here!!! We have 80 acres next to a huge 120 acre forested park. Secluded, peaceful, campground etc etc …just add Carolyn:) only half kidding!!! Good luck and thank you for taking us along on your dreamscape…let us know how we can help.

    Dear Carolyn,
These ideas are very exciting. Having read most of ‘Naked Liberty’ now I am enchanted by your childhood and how you learned to understand horses through the environment you grew up in with the wild horses. To be able to show people this, so they can experience for themselves, would be incredible and invaluable.

Please keep us updated with progress of this dream, we’ll be the first in line to spread the word via the Natural Horse Resource.

Thanks, as always, for contributing so generously with your amazing blog.
    Love Frances (Natural Horse Resource)

As someone who lives in the Northeast, I have always wished for a place to take maybe a 5 day or 1 week vacation that involves learning and interacting with horses in a natural way beneficial to both human and equine. It would also be nice if it was affordable for the average person. In this part of the country there seems to still be a heavy emphasis on the traditional barns, shows etc. While there are individuals here and there who I can turn to I would love to spend time at such a facility as you envision. Can it be done in stages? I wish you success with your plans! Meanwhile, I have the book and DVD to help me with my 19 yr old Arabian Coco, who came into my life a year ago. I also hope everyone supports the new website Horse Conscious and all the horse visionaries involved in that. Am looking forward to your new DVD Carolyn.

The school sounds just like what we all need. But the time frame is very long. I do have a family to take care of too. It is so very far away. I am in Florida. Abundant Blessings, The Ponymoma,Debi

Thank you for your kind encouragements,
I am working on the details of the School’s purpose this week. I am working everday to advance the project forward.

These are truly amazing times, as you know. The “Little miracle” and timing of Virginia’s design (exciting tangible visual) is what will propel you forward to the center’s completion and evolution… You can already “Feel” the anticipation and results. It’s purpose is genuine,
so I expect everything else will manifest in divine order. If I may suggest Sonia Choquette’s “Psychic Pathway”, you could enlist the help of your angels (helpers, runners) to connect you to land, capital, etc. The observation of horses in their natural habitat part should be easy, as it is a shared vision with Madeline Pickens in her quest to return the BLM horses to freedom immediately : ) Blessings and success!

I also like burros alot. First I must find the land and then the capital.

I agree with Maria – I think the shared horse/human space is really architecturally exciting. That image is very powerful. All the best for the project.

What a wonderful and helpful vision and plan! There are certainly are a number of wild horses who would benefit from ending up in such a place in this lifetime.

Kate in TX with Frisco and Lalo BLM mustangs
Bunny, Cinderella, Camilo and Olli too BLM burros
PS: What about Burros? I have long had a dream of living amongst
    a large number of burros.

    Dear Carolyn,

I can imagine your beautiful school being the center for not only students, but a shining example for other schools….showing how horses and humans can live together in harmony while teaching the principles of true horsemanship. Because your vision is so complete and filled with the spirit of community, it is far reaching!

I’ll donate some of my horse art any time you’re ready!

    Much love,

    Debra

I’m sure it’s a dream of many many people to come and learn, grow and share experiences with you and your horses, it certainly is for me. I wish you all the luck in the world!

    Lucinda,
I want it in Southern Calif. We need to be a place for people to drop by off a freeway exit to accomodate the general public. We need lots of land for the horses with plenty of interesting topography.

    Amber Hinton says:

Oh Carolyn. My heart is bursting I’m SO happy. I feel like we are all evolving into the Dream that Horse has always held for us humans. It moves me to tears that we are finally getting it. Our hearts are flowering to the truth that we felt beckoning us since we came here. Our heart-mind is being awakened and guided by the unseen Knowing that our two species somehow agreed to! What a gift from Horse, the most beautiful life form I’ve ever known… . My friends laugh when I don’t wash my hands for hours after leaving my horse, so I can deeply breathe the smell of him. I feel things happening inside me just by that one sense! Imagine them all put together in your multi-sensory and horse-guided vision! Go for your dream, Carolyn, and Source will give you all you need in a burst of miracles! :) I believe.

That sounds wonderful…I like the picture where the horses’ space merges with the human space :) I’d love to see a similar centre in Ireland.
Anything that encourages people to see horses for what they are in their natural state and behaviour has to be good.
    Good luck!

    lUCINDA CARPE says:

I love that idea! I think it is especially interesting that the first 5 years should be spent learning about the first two rituals..instead of just slamming through it so that students can move on to what “they really want to do”.
Your riding program sounds like an oasis. I hope you can do that and I hope you do it right here in California so I can go!

    Carol LaCorte says:

New year, new president, and a new cutting-edge facility to educate people in natural horsemanship. It’s a fresh start all around, isn’t it? I think your idea is marvelous! Since learning that you spent your youth observing wild mustangs, I must admit I’ve been a little envious. You certainly had the very best teachers tutoring you year after year. If you could create a center that would allow others to observe horses in the same fashion you did, I think you’d have people lined up for miles wanting to join you. I’d be one of them.
Best of luck getting your school off the ground.

    Lynn Lambert says:

How truly exciting!!! As I read your book I couldn’t help but wonder “How could anyone ever duplicate those remarkable childhood experiences?” And lo and behold you announce your vision, already in motion, which would assist many of us to do just that….duplicate in some way your equine experience. This sounds so wonderful and inviting. Perhaps the equine facilitated learning could be incorporated into vacation modules for some of us who live far away. Perhaps you could do 2 to 4 weeks at a time?

    Stuart says:

    great vision Carolyn
closely parallels our plans here with camels, though not yet with your years of experience… I will watch & learn…
the baby camels are doing well, just returned from the paddocks,
the older of the three, a 10 month female, named Barack O’Mama (just for fun of course! — her mother is called Google Mama…)… anyway Barack is really coming along in games and wrestling matches… she loves to wrestle like a big (500 pound) dog… while my 140 pound frame is always under the ever-watchful eye of Barack’s uncle, Peaceful Baba, who makes sure she doesn’t get too out of hand on me… I don’t let her but its good to have someone watching out as well… hope you can visit again sometime… :)

    Bonnitta Roy says:

It is so very interesting how these ideas are beginning to emerge, coalesce and manifest. Before I was able to own property to keep my horses I founded EAGLE Foundations, Inc .. whose mission statement is “to build environments that foster the horse-human encounter.” Our home “Alderlore” is our first test run. This year I entered the Google 10 to the 100th grant contest with the vision of establishing a facility on sacred Native American Indian grounds — to create a Native American horse sanctuary that would fulfill the growing demand for equine facilitated learning. I envisioned that the programs would be taught by a community of experts like yourself, and also indigenous peoples, and would expand to other totemic animals.

I truly hope you can manifest your vision, Carolyn!
