Hi again, hope you had a good weekend. As many of you know, earlier this year I took part in a documentary by film maker Stormy May, which has recently been released on DVD under the title of “The Path of the Horse”. It’s a remarkable and fascinating look at how we view horses and how they are being treated in 21st Century society.

Natural Horse Magazine said “We can be better horse people and “The Path of the Horse” challenges us to transcend. Thanks to Stormy May and her very impressive work, we have a place to start. This is a must-see, must-share video. Here’s hoping its impact on the horse world will spread far and wide fast.”

I signed up for this series and am going to purchase the downloadable MP3 files of the series. I really look forward to hearing from these great teachers. I am taking a hiatus from riding currently. My own horse has had many health challenges and that is the “reason” I give, but it’s more that I don’t want to do things the way I was taught, and I feel that he doesn’t want this either.

The pressure from other people to “do something” more than groundwork with him, or to ride another horse is pretty strong and I wonder why. I am happy to hear that Nevzoroz asks his students to commit to not riding for a year. It gives me strength to stay on the path.

I too bought the dvd a few months ago. So far I’ve shared it with about 15 people and am in the process of planning a video night and potluck for local horsewomen. I was amazed and inspired by what I saw and heard. I’ve read all Mark Rashid’s books, attended workshops with Linda Kohanov, watched Hempflinger’s videos, read Naked Liberty twice
and bought the first dvd and basically been on a path very similar to Stormy May’s for the past 8 years or so(I’m saving up for the Waterhole Rituals). I’m very grateful for the introduction to Nevzorov and for this great resource. I can’t express how validating it was for me to watch this film. I’ve been grounded for the past couple of years in that I’m not riding my horses. Sometimes I feel a great resistance to this and judge that I’m doing something wrong in having it happen to me. I have 6 horses and alot of neighbours watching so I can relate to Stormy May in her humility as well. On the other side it feels very right too. There were things I was doing both with my body and with my habits of dominance that were causing stress and disconnect for me physically, mentally and emotionally with my horses under saddle and they are so imbedded that I can see that a hiatus really is necessary for me to heal them before returning to it. I’ve deepened my groundwork significantly, refocused on connection and relationship and also improved how I use my spine and strengthened my structural alignment(my own groundwork) through feldenkrais practice. LIstening to Hempflinger talk about how horses can challenge people, causing them to judge themselves as “not enough” and how Nevzorov asks his students to give up riding for a year when they train with him thrilled me to tears. I was also surprised and in some ways validated by what Nevzorov has come up with in terms of his scientific research about bits and backs.
And now, thanks to mentors with integrity like Carolyn who share freely in the ways available to them I’m off to register for another learning adventure.

I bought the DVD ‘The Path of the Horse’ some months ago. It’s one of the most impressive films I’ve ever seen. My husband, my friend and I sat crying together afterwards…
